UC Admission RequirementsTo be eligible for freshman admission to the University of California, students must fulfill certain requirements while in high school. First, they must take 15 college-prep courses. These are courses in history, English, math, science, a language other than English, and visual and performing arts. From the time students first enter high school, they should be enrolled in courses that are approved by the University of California. Ask your child’s counselor or check your school’s list of approved courses at www.ucop.edu/doorways. Students must have a grade point average of at least 3.0 in these courses. Students must also take standardized college admission tests. They may take either the SAT Reasoning Test or the ACT with Writing. They must take two SAT Subject Tests in two different subject areas. All students who complete these minimum requirements are eligible for admission. For students who will be graduating from high school in 2012 or thereafter, and applying to the University of California, the requirements are a little bit different. Students must still take 15 college-prep courses, but they will have to complete at least 11 of them by the end of the junior year. They will still need a GPA of at least 3.0. Also, UC will no longer require the SAT Subject Tests. However, students will still have to take the SAT Reasoning Test or the ACT with Writing. |
